What Is Trauma Anyway?
Trauma is often misunderstood as something that only follows catastrophic events. While extreme experiences like war, assault, or natural disasters can certainly leave deep psychological imprints, trauma is less about the event itself and more about how the experience overwhelms a person’s capacity to cope. Trauma is not only something we remember—it is something we carry. While many people think of traumatic experiences as stories held in the mind, trauma is also stored in the body: in muscle tension, in patterns of movement, in nervous system responses that can persist long after the original event has passed. In my practice, I take an integrative approach to trauma processing, combining Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) with Sensorimotor Psychotherapy (SP).
