What is Sensorimotor Psychotherapy?
In the early 1970s, Pat Ogden developed Sensorimotor Psychotherapy. This approach is based on a combination of mindfulness, attachment theory and the latest discoveries in neuroscience. As a holistic approach to trauma, it encourages you to be gently curious about movements, thoughts, and sensations within your body in a safe manner in order to prevent re-traumatization while exploring your thoughts and feelings.
Research shows that our body has memories of previous negative experiences. These memories can have an enormous effect on our nervous system. Sensorimotor Psychotherapy helps resolve emotional and physical tension as well as getting you out of a sense of "stuckness" related to trauma.
As a graduate of level 2 Sensorimotor Psychotherapy I include it in my work on trauma and attachment treatment.
